Instructors Wanted

Share your know-how, submit a workshop proposal!

I Heart Art: Portland is officially back from a holiday hiatus, and we’re busy planning our programing launch for March. That means WE NEED YOU! We are currently taking proposals for our 2012 business-development workshop series. This year we plan to host six workshops, two Mixer-Match sessions and a minimum of two salon discussions. But we can’t do any of this without you!

The Details:

We are looking for six workshops that appeal to a broad base of makers such as; metalsmiths, textile arts, ceramicists, painters, jewelers and photographers, to name a few. We want topics that are beneficial to the creative community of Portland and that are aimed to advance the skills and know-how of those creative entrepreneurs. This year we are particularly interested in workshops developed to appeal to advanced-level business development skills; i.e. bookkeeping, accounting and taxes,  and inventory tracking, etc.

All workshops are held on Saturday from 11 am – 1:30 pm (two hours of instruction and one 30 minute break.) You should also know that while I Heart Art: Portland provides a location, seating and minimal staffing for each workshop, we require a self-sufficient workshop structure. All instruction is the responsibility of the Instructor. In exchange for sharing your knowledge, we’ll compensate you a cool $150.

To get your creative ideas flowing, take a look at our list of workshops for the past two years, then jot down your plan and send us your proposal. We can’t wait to see what you come up with.

NOTE: Review of proposals begins February 28th, 2012. Confirmation of engagement with I Heart Art: Portland on March 2, 2012.

Etsy’s Almost Internet Famous Event

As small business owners we know that social media is one of those tools in our tool belt that can boost our bottom line, build our brand and help us show a little personality. But, being clever and creative in 140 characters can be daunting. Some brands ratchet up “likes” and “followers” like rain in a bucket in Portland. For others, it’s just crickets.

Hello Etsy PDX is SOLD OUT

The last two tickets sold in the wee hours last night, and we’re happy (and a little sad) to report that the Hello Etsy PDX conference is completely SOLD OUT.

But if you didn’t get a chance to buy a ticket, or aren’t in the area on September 17, there is a whole lineup of live content that will be streaming from Etsy’s Online Labs from the conferences all over the world. There’s nifty RSVP feature, too, that will send you an email reminder before the broadcast starts. Visit Etsy’s Livestream page and scroll down to the Upcoming Events list to see everything that’s coming up and to RSVP for individual broadcasts.

We will also be taping a number of individual sessions, much like we do with our professional development workshops, so keep an eye out on our website our Vimeo page in the future for the finished videos.

For those of you who did get a ticket, the wheels are in motion, the programs are being printed, the food carts are on deck and the last-minute details are being worked out. This is going to be a conference you will never forget! Are you ready?!

An email with detailed information about the conference will be sent to ticket holders in the next few days and will include transportation tips, what to bring, what to expect and more.
