We’ve opened registration for our first 2012 workshop; Am I Making Money? What it Takes to be in Business.

If you scratch your head wondering whether your business idea will actually pay the bills, then this workshop is for you! The ability to get paid is what distinguishes a business from a hobby. Many go into business because they have a compelling vision to improve the world around them. However, turning your dream into a reality is not possible without a sound understanding of your balance sheet.

In this workshop, you will learn how to:

  • Identify the costs of doing business and distinguish between variable and fixed costs
  • Determine your break-even point and the amount you need to sell to pay yourself

Registration Open: Speed Branding

Graphic designer and brand guru Alicia Nagel teaches our next workshop on Saturday, April 16 from 11:00 am–1:30 pm. The topic will be “Speed Branding: A DIY Brand Book Workshop” and will teach artists and crafters how to develop a solid, marketable brand through engaging hands-on activities.

The workshop only costs $10 and includes coffee/tea and a light lunch.

Registration Open: Connecting to Your Community

To kick off our new Salon Discussion series, I will be leading a conversation about how to effectively connect to one’s community through four self-reflective and action-oriented steps, March 30 at 7 pm.

Our Salon Discussions are free and open to the public, but we do appreciate an RSVP through the event page. This event will be hosted at Madison’s Grill on SE 11th and Madison St. Light food will be provided, along with a cash bar and other specials for those interested.

Registration Open: Small Steps

Rachel Dominguez-Benner of Bike Cozy is teaching our first workshop of the year on Saturday, March 19 from 11:00 am–1:30 pm. The topic will be “Small Steps: A Creative Business Primer” and will cover five stumbling blocks for “crafty-preneurs”. Don’t worry artists, the topics apply to you too!

Our workshops this year cost $10, but include coffee, tea and a light lunch (with a 30 minute break in the middle).
